Ah, Tales of Xillia 2, a wonderful sequel to Xillia, in my opinion. Everything just feels great, and all of your favorite characters are just as loveable and silly. Plus, the ability to have Gaius and Muzet as party members is fantastic. For those who don't know, Gaius and Muzet were planned to be playable in the first Xillia, but due to time constraints, it couldn't be done. Also, they made Gaius a bit more silly, but he's still just as formidable, so I think it suits him.
Having a "silent" protagonist (Ludger does still speak, just very rarely and usually in only one or two words, but a New Game Plus option lets you turn his voice on, but only for dialogue choices), Ludger, is a pretty cool idea, in my opinion, as it gives you choice. In a lot of scenes, you can hit L1 or R1 to pick dialogue for Ludger, which generally only changes a tiny bit of dialogue before continuing onwards. The same can be said in skits, but some dialogue choices affect character affinity, which gives you some extra items eventually, so that's pretty cool.
This game, like Xillia before it, is an emotional rollercoaster, as well, especially when you're basically tasked with shaping Ludger into whatever you want him to be, and as far as the plot goes, it generally gets heartbreaking near the end to see what Ludger has to go through and since you, as the player, are filling his shoes (I usually feel like a silent protagonist is meant to help immerse us or try to have us fill the role) and therefore will generally go through the same emotions as he will, for the most part.
But it's a wonderful game, all the same, and if you've played Xillia, you're going to be right at home when you play this. As I always say, give it a try if you can, it's more than worth your time and effort, especially if you're a general Tales fan. Thanks a bunch for reading, and I'll see you tomorrow for the trophy guide!
Have a nice day!~
