Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny Trophy Guide

Welcome to the trophy guide for Rune Factory! The trophies here aren't extremely difficult, but are mostly time consuming, with a couple things being actually difficult if you're not prepared. There's no time limit for anything, so don't feel like you need to rush through the main story as fast as possible. Take time to enjoy the events and festivals and plan out your days as you will. Anyways, let's get to it!

*For easy reference, when I mention the main characters, which are the 3 you can name, I'll be using their official/default names, so the male protagonist is Aden, the female protagonist is Sonja, and the Plant Golem is Ymir!*

Rune Factory Master Earn all trophies.
As always, collect every trophy to nab this shiny platinum. Congratulations, you earned it!

Island Raiser Use the Plant Golem to raise an island out of the sea.
Impossible to miss, as you'll be raising islands constantly throughout your time playing. Don't worry about this, it'll most likely be the very first trophy you get, like it was for me.

Island Savior Raise all of the islands out of the sea.
Despite it saying you have to raise all islands, you simply have to raise all the islands based in the story events. You'll get it in time!

Beginning Salvager Successfully salvage 10 times.
See Master Salvager.

Veteran Salvager Successfully salvage 20 times.
See Master Salvager.

Master Salvager Successfully salvage 30 times.
There are plenty more than 30 individual islands in the game. All you have to do is play the game normally and you'll eventually pull 30 islands out of the water.

Rock Hard Riddle Get to the bottom of why Sprout Island turned to stone.
This is one of the first islands you go to. You eventually learn about needing spirits to make the land restored. Sprout Island ends up becoming Spring Island, one of the 4 season-based islands that allow you to gather resources, like crops and ore, to sell or use in various recipes/crafts.

Monster Battler Defeat 100 monsters.
See That Which Monsters Flee.

Monster Masher Defeat 500 monsters.
See That Which Monsters Flee.

Monster Destroyer Destroy 1500 monsters.
See That Which Monsters Flee.

That Which Monsters Fear Defeat 3000 monsters.
See That Which Monsters Flee.

That Which Monsters Flee Defeat 5000 monsters.
So, yeah, 5000 monsters seems very daunting, especially depending on how many you choose to take on when you find a new island or are going through a dungeon. Well, I'll explain a simple way for you to reach this goal, and at the same time gain some much-needed experience for leveling up and being able to take on some of the crazy bosses (seriously, if you just rush through the game, the enemies and bosses in the few temples are pretty challenging.).

There's multiple methods, based on peoples' opinions and based on your story progress. For this, you want to be at the Water Temple and hopefully have a Storm Rod. If you don't have one, do various tasks for your fellow islanders and you'll eventually get a recipe that will include this. You'll want to reach the floor where you go straight to reach a warp pad. Next thing you know, you're near 2 sets of stairs with monster spawners on top. If you stay behind the steps and keep hitting the attack button, the blades from the Storm Rod will constantly hit the enemies, and because you're not close enough to hit the spawners, you won't destroy them, giving you a great source of infinite experience, to get you more than leveled enough to blow through the rest of the story. For reference, when I started this technique, I was at maybe... late 20's, early 30's. When I finally stopped, I was around level 65, and it didn't take an extremely long time either. You can gain a few easy levels every in game day, if you choose to. And level 65 was more than enough to finish the rest of the game (my next destination at the time was the Wind Temple, which is near the end of the game.).

Giant Battler Defeat 10 giant monsters.
See Giant Destroyer.

Giant Slayer Defeat 20 giant monsters.
See Giant Destroyer.

Giant Destroyer Defeat 30 giant monsters.
You might need to go out of your way here, but you'll know it's a giant monster because, while you're traveling the sea using Ymir, sometimes the music shifts and an enemy appears, with a health bar adjacent to yours. This is a giant monster. It doesn't matter which ones you defeat, you could simply go around and defeat the same one each day and you'd still be able to get this. After defeating 30 of them, this trophy is yours.

Golem Repairman Find out what's wrong with the Plant Golem and get him working again.
Near the end of the game Ymir will stop working. After talking to Elena about it, you'll eventually travel inside Ymir to destroy the entity inside of him to make him work again.

Water Temple Cleared Lift the stone curse from the Water Temple.
These 3 can be done in any order and are very, very easy. Eventually, the Arch Dragon will ask you to talk to the Inn Sisters to lift the stone curses you weren't able to prevent thanks to the Masked Man. Simply put, you talk to Lily, Odette, and Violet, and each one will lift the curse from a different temple. 3 easy trophies and easy story progress, in the bag!

Fire Temple Cleared Lift the stone curse from the Fire Temple.
See Water Temple Cleared.

Earth Temple Cleared Lift the stone curse from the Earth Temple.
See Water Temple Cleared.

Legendary Golem Defeated Defeat the Legendary Golem.
Unlike most giant monsters, you can't just swing wildly at the Golem! Simply block the attacks until there's an opening, then give it a nice combo. Rinse and repeat, and enjoy the lovely music and the awesome setting!

Masked Man Revealed See the true face of the man in the mask.
I advise you to take a quick look at Most Popular before you finish the game!

The reason you want friendship level 6 is because, for this fight only, each person you have at level 6 counts as an extra life! By default, you have 2 extra lives, courtesy of Sonja and the Goblin Captain. For reference, I had 5 lives in total, but more would have made it even easier for me. But this is it, you can do it! You've made it this far, now defeat this man and get Sonja's body back!

Beginning Crafter Successfully craft an item.
See Master Crafter.

Veteran Crafter Successfully craft 300 items.
See Master Crafter.

Professional Crafter Successfully craft 800 items.
See Master Crafter.

Master Crafter Successfully craft 1500 items.
So this one also seems daunting, but if you use a small and easy workaround, it's not as bad as you think. When you check your calendar, be sure to note the 2nd Thursday of each season/month, which usually mentions a sale at the General Goods Stores. If you buy milk, then cook it to make hot milk, you can make a quick and easy profit, and it still counts as crafting. If you have enough money, buy 99 or 100 of them, then make them all before the next sale comes, or before the next time you want to buy a lot more milk. Rinse and repeat until you eventually reach 1500 items! Of course, you'll be making more than just food items along the way, but still.

Failed Chef Fail at cooking one time.
A lot easier than you think. Simplest way to do it is to find an item to craft, once you have the ingredients, and look for something way above your level, but at least you're able to attempt it. It's easy to fail, so just hit the red area and bam, you got a nice burnt trophy for your efforts.

Insomniac Stay awake until you collapse at 5AM.
Another simple one. You're told that you should rest up at night, which allows you to wake up bright and early at 6AM the next day. Waiting till very late doesn't do anything but make you wake up a little later in most cases. Simply wait around outside of a house until 5AM. If you want to do this even faster, use the fast travel option while riding on Ymir to make time fly by even faster. You'll collapse and wake up in your house the next morning with this trophy in your pocket.

Most Popular Earn the goodwill of many residents on Fenith Island.
Now, this might not seem important, but this trophy actually has a useful benefit to it! It's a one-time only benefit, but it will be very handy. This trophy requires you to get your friendship levels up with every character on the island, male and female, excluding the cameos from other games in the series who hardly appear to begin with. Yes, this includes Jocelyn, who's the toughest to get up, if only because she's only around on Thursdays and Holidays, and Festival days. They must all hit level 6, which is the default cap before you finish the game and do some postgame stuff to return Sonja to her body (and be able to switch over to playing as her if you don't want to be Aden anymore.).

A small, easy way to do this is to just talk to everyone every day, even just once. Doing tasks for them on the bulletin board also brings the bar up a small chunk. When the current "exp" bar is full, for their next friendship level, they'll ask to speak to you when you talk to them. Say yes and you'll see a small scene that will end in their friendship level increasing by 1 level. Once everyone is level 6, you get the trophy, and an additional bonus mentioned in Masked Man Revealed.

Beginning Angler Successfully land a fish.
See Master Angler.

Veteran Angler Successfully land 300 fish.

Professional Angler Successfully land 1000 fish.
See Master Angler.

Master Angler Successfully land 2000 fish.
Out of everything, this is probably the most boring trophy, unless you're super into fishing. If you are, then by all means please enjoy this long task. Once you have a fishing rod, use it by any body of water and a fish will end up biting. Hitting the blue or green area will make you catch the fish. Now repeat it 1999 more times for the trophy.

On rainy days, fish bite more frequently. The way I did this was I started a tally once I had the trophy for 300. I would spend a whole day just fishing, usually getting anywhere between 40-60 fish, depending on bite speed, success rate, etc. Getting a better rod will be beneficial to you as well. After you finish fishing for the day, which will be late at night, look in your inventory and count every fish, then add that number to your tally before you sell the fish or cook them. Eventually, you'll be done with this trophy.

Overmedicated Consume 100 recovery drinks.
If you want to cheap this out, simply get 100 recovery potions, put them on any of your Quick-Use buttons, then save your game. After, just drink all of them until you get the trophy. Then simply reload your save and keep all those drinks. Otherwise, you'll definitely get this trophy at one point or another.

Germ Factory Catch a cold 100 times.
Another case of save your progress before trying to purposely get this. When you die or pass out, when you wake up the next morning there's a chance you'll wake up with a cold. This has you wake up with half of your HP and RP, and makes you more susceptible to damage and exhaustion. What you do is simply keep using a weapon inside your house and keep letting yourself die to keep getting a cold. I say save because this makes you skip a LOT of days and events as you purposely try for this. But once you finish and get the trophy, then you can reload your save and continue your game as normal! See? Now you're all better!

Jumping for Joy Perform a double-jump 500 times.
Surprisingly this wasn't my first trophy. Purposely double jumping or not, I literally just can't stop double jumping. I don't know why, but this is the easiest trophy you can get. Literally, you can find a spot where your jump gets stopped due to a ceiling stopping you, and if you double jump, well you can bang out maybe 3 double jumps every second. But obviously, this doesn't need a bigger explanation. Just keep double jumping and you'll get this trophy in no time flat.

Gladiator Win a battle in the colloseum.
A lot later in the game, you'll eventually get a request from Jocelyn that has her asking you to salvage a place west of Fenith Island. This place turns out to be an old colloseum. In it, you'll find 9 dragon statues. Each statue has you fighting a few waves of enemies, and later ones have you rematching old bosses, all the way up to the Legendary Golem itself! After completing all 9 rounds, this hard-earned trophy is yours! However...

Champion Achieve repeat victories in the colloseum.
...you must defeat all 9 rounds AGAIN, and this time they're a lot stronger and more difficult to defeat! This time, once you finish a dragon statue challenge, it will crumble and never be able to be used again. Once you finish the last one, you can finally breathe a sigh of relief, because, in my opinion, you just earned the toughest trophy in the game! Now go home and get some sleep, you earned it!

Trophies 101 Listen to Maerwin's explanation about trophies.
According to some people, this trophy is a little glitched but I never had an issue with it. After you reach friendship level 2 with Maerwin, eventually she'll ask if you know about trophies. Ask her to explain them to you and she actually explains trophies to you - like, she talks about PlayStation trophies, you know, the exact thing you get from hearing her explanation! Talk about meta, am I right?

So that's it for the trophy guide! As I said, many of these are just grind-intensive, but it can all still be done if you put time and effort into it. All in all, not a very difficult platinum, all things considered. And if I can do it, you can too. Thanks for reading and I will see you later! :D

*This game took me a total of 1 year and 2 weeks to finish, from my first trophy to the platinum, including a long hiatus from the game in the process. My first trophy was "Island Raiser" which was achieved on May 6th, 2015 at 12:03 AM. My final trophy was "Most Popular" which was achieved on May 19th, 2016 at 2:30 am, along with the platinum, "Rune Factory Master." This platinum trophy is the 43rd platinum trophy I have received.*
